We were honored to visit Niki Donato's third grade classroom at Oak Flat Elementary School in the Big Spring School District (Capital Area), where she was teaching a solar system unit that she created herself a few years ago, and has since been adopted across her district. Be sure to take a look at the photos and story of her lesson to learn more about the innovative science lessons that Niki devised for her students.

This week's Web Pick offers a treasure trove of great resources, thanks to the upcoming Excellence in Science, Technology, and Math Education (ESTME) Week, taking place from March 16-22, 2003. Organized by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, this initiative involves public and private organizations in a national campaign to promote science and math education to K-12 students. As part of the initiative, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is working with the Association of Science-Technology Centers, the Association of Children's Museums, and the American Association of School Librarians to promote the event.

The website listed above provides information about and links to some of the entertaining and educational science websites maintained by museums and libraries. Also, don't forget that The Franklin Institute Online (http://www.fi.edu) is another valuable source for educators and students seeking science on the web.
