Assessment Strategies for Inquiry

Here you can find resources to refine your existing evaluation and assessment methods, as well as research new techniques.

Advancing Science as Inquiry
NLIST offers this Instructional Materials Rubric as a tool to to assess materials such as texts or procedural manuals in order to determine the level of science as inquiry being practiced in a classroom setting. Elsewhere on this site, you can also access an operational definition of inquiry, workshop outlines, and other rubrics.

PALS: Performance Assessment Links in Science
Tremendously useful, PALS is an on-line, standards-based, continually updated resource bank of science performance assessment tasks indexed via the National Science Education Standards (NSES) and various other standards frameworks. You can select the standards with which you'd like to align, and receive a list of recommended tasks/activities designed to meet the standards, and vice versa.
