Neat Images for Organisms and Their Needs

Animal Pictures Archive
The name pretty much says it all. This site offers a huge collection of animal images—just search by name. They also provide animal sounds, animated movies, and clip art.

Cells Alive!
Fabulous microscopic images of cells, viruses, bacteria, and much more (including the anatomy of a splinter!). This site does a good job of taking difficult terms and making them comprehensible.

Butterfly Photos
This USGS site features hundreds of common butterfly photos from around the world, indexed by continent.

Painted Lady Butterfly Fact Sheet
Lovely photos of a painted lady butterfly (in caterpillar stage also) as well as straightforward facts about the species from the USGS. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the painted lady butterfly distribution in the US and parts of Mexico.

The Virtual Insectary
Although there are only about twenty images on this site, those that exist are very good, and worth a look. The author/photographer also provides brief descriptions of the insects' habitats and food.

Frog Life Cycle
Very basic diagram and short explanation of a frog's life cycle. This could be a quick reference for your students.

Volvox Movies
Take a look at five different mini-movies featuring magnified Volvox. Requires Real Video but is adaptable to slower connection speeds.

Blepharisma
Although there's not much information on this page, it does offer a great magnified image of Blepharisma.

Protist Images: Blepharisma
Click around to take close-up looks at the different subspecies of Blepharisma.
