Neat Images for Our Changing Earth
The
Virtual Cave
Spectacular photography and thumbnail explanations of
mineral deposits unique to the cave environment.
Earth Cams
This
site from the Discovery Channel compiles links for web cams
aimed at earth-related
features. Most geology moves too slowly for live-action to
be useful,
but check out the links to the cameras near live volcanoes
(Italy, Japan, and
Hawaii). The availability of cameras will change, so be sure to return if there's an active event such
as an explosive eruption, a landslide, or earthquake
activity because someone is almost guaranteed to aim a
camera at it.
San
Francisco Bay Area with Fault Lines
Satellite images (urban areas are gray-
white) detail the locations of faults with easy-to-see red
lines. Be sure to view some of the close-up images. It could
be interesting to have students notice how the
topography aligns with the faults.
