Kids' Web Classroom: Air and Weather

This section provides kid-appropriate sites that you might want to let your students explore on their own, or with your guidance.

For Kids Only: Earth Science Enterprise
NASA explains how they study air, natural hazards, land, and water, as well as how of all of these elements interact with each other. Find out how people have impacts (both positive and negative) on the planet, and how you fit into the picture.

Owlie Skywarn
Owlie is the mascot of the National Weather Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Owlie's site teaches kids about the hazards of severe weather, including tornadoes, lightning, hurricanes, flash floods, and winter storms, and offers safety tips for dealing with each.

Weather Basics from the Weather Dude
Not only will the Weather Dude tell you all about the basics of weather, he'll sing to you too. There's a sing-a-long song (optional) that aligns with each section of information. You'll need Real Audio to listen to the songs, and if you don't have it, you can get the free download from the page. Read more commentary…

AccuSchool
AccuWeather has created a site (written at a level appropriate for older students) that seeks to explain some of the mysteries of weather to students. AccuSchool discusses hurricanes, Doppler radar, fall foliage, wind chill, and more.

Climate vs. Weather
This simple page offers an easy explanation of the difference between weather and climate. You could continue beyond this mini-essay to learn about regional climate differences as well.
